Man gets 10 years on meth, other counts
A Barberton man has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking and firearms crimes.
Matthew R. Golech, 38, pleaded guilty in November in U.S. District Court in Akron to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Judge Sara Lioi sentenced Golech on Thursday to 123 months in prison.
Golech had about 50 grams of methamphetamines in 2016. He also had a Bersa Firestorm .22-caliber pistol, which he used for drug trafficking, according to court documents.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron Howell.
Golech was represented by Akron Attorney Richard Kutuchief. arrested Friday in Buffalo, police said.
The 54-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death of Vicky Zabala, 55, who was found dead early Friday in a house on Torrington Avenue near State Road, police said.
A Parma police spokesman identified the man as a member of Zalaba’s family.
Zabala’s sister found her dead about 6:45 a.m. Investigators did not say how she died.
Detectives tracked the suspect to Buffalo, where that city’s police department took him into custody, police said. Details of his arrest were not immediately available.
