SATURDAY’S GAME
Miami at Akron, 2 p.m., 1450, 980, 1230 leading 67-56 with 8:47 left in the game. Sibande capped the run with two free throws.
Wes Clark converted a traditional three-point play to cut Miami’s lead to 80-78 with 22.0 seconds left, but Sibande made 4 of 6 free throws in the final 21.6 seconds to seal the win and render meaningless Jeremy Harris’ desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Buffalo cut the lead to three points twice down the stretch, but Ringo sank a jump shot for a 76-71 lead with 3:15 remaining and soph- omore Bam Bowman, mak- ing his second straight start, connected on both ends of a bonus free-throw situation with 31.7 seconds left.
Miami shot 60.7 percent from the field (17 of 28) in the second half. Both teams made 30 field goals and 11 3-pointers, but the RedHawks made three more free throws than the Bulls (20-8, 12-3).
“This is definitely a big win for us,” Coleman-Lands said. “We’d lost four straight. This will help us get our heads back right. (Owens) told us to keep the ball rolling. We just beat the No. 1 team in our division, but the job isn’t finished.”
The RedHawks, who still have a shot at hosting a MAC Tournament firstround game, have one regular-season home game left March 2 against Ohio. That’s after they travel to Northeast Ohio for games Saturday at Akron and Tuesday at Kent State. Miami beat the Zips and Golden Flashes in Oxford in January.
