The winners of the 2018 Erma Bombeck Writing Competitio­n have been announced.

Humor

First place: Susan Keller of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., for “It’s My Mortal Coil, and I’ll Laugh If I Want To”

Honorable Mentions: LouAnn Edwards of Beaverton, Ore., for “Lower the Bar, I’m Diving In”; Pamela Wright of Clarkdale, Ga., for “The Seven Year Split”; Kathleen Bouvier of Saint Lambert QC, Canada, for “Monday Never Comes”; Missy Nicholson of Greer, S.C., for “I Know Where the Pink Grass Grows” Humor (Local)

First place: Jeff Kennedy of Columbus for “Another Day, Another Swatch”

The winners receive $1,000 and a free registrati­on to the sold-out Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop in April and will read their essays at the Library’s Celebratio­n Evening on Wednesday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at Centervill­e Library. Betsy Bombeck — social worker, community volunteer and daughter of beloved humorist Erma Bombeck — will be the keynote speaker. The Honorable Mention honorees will all receive $100.
