Local health board earns national accreditation

- STAFF REPORT

Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County has achieved accreditation by a national board that recognizes the quality and performance of community health departments.

The Public Health Accreditation Board announced this week that the local health department successfully completed the process, which included a review of documentation, data and practices as well as a site visit by an accreditation team.

“We are proud to learn that our health department has met the standards for national accreditation. National accreditation demonstrates that we are a high-performing health department, and that we are committed to continually improving our services, value and accountability to our community,” said Jeff Cooper, the county’s health commissioner. “This designation was only possible due to the phenomenal efforts of our employees, and support from our Board of Health and community partners.”

The national board was created to serve as the national public health accrediting body and is jointly funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The voluntary national accreditation program works to improve and protect the health of the public by advancing the quality and performance of tribal, state, local and territorial public health departments.
