City of Kettering needs 350 to fill summer jobs
2018 is going to be an exciting year and the Kettering Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department needs fun, innovative, and dedicated employees to make it happen.
The city has about 350 seasonal jobs to fill.
“The seasonal positions we hire for each year are critical to the success of our facilities, programs and events,” explained Mary Beth Thaman, Director of the Kettering Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department. “Many of these employees are our first line of contact with our customers. They are passionate and innovative team members that help that shape the experiences our customers and residents love.”
Numerous seasonal temporary job opportunities are available, each of them offering the chance to work with talented people who are dedicated to the community and want to be part of something bigger.
Hiring is underway for lifeguards at Adventure Reef Water Park and the Kettering Recreation Complex indoor pool. Responsibilities for lifeguards include prevention of accidents and incidents in the water and the surrounding area through proper scanning and rule/guideline enforcement.
Successfully passing the American Red Cross Lifeguard Class or holding a current American Red Cross Certificate is one job requirement. Wages begin at $8.30 per hour.
“We can help if someone wants to be a lifeguard but hasn’t completed the required course,” explained Sonja Rom, Division Manager of Recreation Facilities. “We work with the American Red Cross to offer the 30-hour course needed to be lifeguard at the Kettering Recreation Complex. Those courses are being offered now through May.”
The Parks Maintenance Division is also hiring with wages beginning at $8.30 per hour. These seasonal staff members will assist with the day-to-day maintenance of medians and Kettering’s 21 parks.
Groundskeepers will work with the parks division in the daily maintenance, care and operation of Kettering parks by mowing, trimming and general maintenance.
The groundskeeper specialist responsibilities are slightly broader and include assisting the parks division in the daily maintenance, care and operation of Kettering parks by performing a wide variety of duties in the care of trees, shrubs, lawns, ball fields and flowers, and in the maintenance and construction of park facilities. All parks maintenance applicants must be 18 years or older.
“Kettering’s parks are the inclusive backyard that so many of our residents visit throughout the summer,” said Gary Schussler, Parks Superintendent. “They are also first impression for many visitors to our community. It is imperative that we hire staff that are passionate about providing the best experiences our parks can offer.”
For those who prefer a fastpaced, energetic atmosphere, the Fraze Pavilion is the place to be. They are recruiting for Recreation Aides, Concession Aides and Ticket Agents for the 2018 season.
Concession Aides will be responsible for food and beverage sales and/or product restocking; Recreation Aides will work as ticket takers/ushers and Ticket Agents sell Fraze tickets and merchandise. Applicants must be 18 years old and may work up to 40 evening/weekend hours per week. Wages begin at $8.35 per hour.
Karen Durham, Fraze Pavilion general manager, says, “Fraze is the place where memories are made each summer with family, friends or your fellow team members. We invite you to be a part of the live music experience by joining the Fraze team this summer.”
“These jobs are a fantastic way to gain experience, develop leadership skills, and work as a team, all while receiving on-the-job training and competitive pay,” said Thaman.
