Vandalia logistics firm planning to add 41 jobs
Dayton Freight, founded in 1981, will add the positions over the next three years with help from a $50K Montgomery County grant.
A growing Vandalia trucking company plans to add up to another 41 new full-time positions over the next three years.
Dayton Freight Lines Inc. will add the positions with the help of a $50,000 incentive from Montgomery County.
Sand Lake Properties LLC, which owns the building Dayton Freight is in, received a grant last month from the Montgomery County ED/GE program, which awards incentives on a competitive basis.
“We’re very excited for Sand Lake Properties and this grant the company is receiving,” said Vandalia Assistant City Manager Amber Holloway.
Dayton Freight Lines was established in 1981 and is a fast-growing logistics company. Last year, the company added about 50 positions.
Sand Lake Properties and Dayton Freight were awarded the $50,000 to make updates to the
building. Dayton Freight is the largest of 14 tenants in the building at 6450 Poe Ave.
The grant will help update the heating and cooling system to digital thermostats.
“The building upgrades will allow a more energy-efficient operation and a bet- ter work environment for all of the Sand Lake tenants, including Dayton Freight,” Holloway said.
The grant pulls resources from participating municipal- ities and then awards eco- nomic development grants to projects that bring jobs to the region, according to Vandalia Communications Manager Rich Hopkins.
There are two application processes per year, one in late to early spring and in the fall.
The Sand Lake project fits well into the ED/GE program’s goal of working to retain and grow jobs in Montgomery County, Holloway said.
“It’s a huge incentive for our businesses to make improvements to their building and bring new jobs to this region,” Holloway said. “Especially to the city of Vandalia.”
