New hotel planned in Miller Lane area

- By Kaitlin Schroeder Staff Writer

A new hotel is proposed in Butler Twp., joining a grow- ing number of shopping and lodging options in the busy Miller Lane area.

A permit was filed with Montgomery County that requests to build a WoodSpring Suites at 3663 Maxton Road.

The four-story hotel would be built near the Maxton Road and Miller Lane.

Messages were left with WoodSpring Suites seeking more details about the hotel and the project timeline.

Township Administrator Erica Vogel said the town- ship is working with developer Krish Hospitality LLC on the design guidelines, and the developer will also need to get permit approval from the county.

The hotel chain did not return a request for comment but lists WoodSpring Suites Dayton North as one of its hotels under development.

Parent company Wood- Spring Hotels describes itself as a value extended-stay hotel brand with more than 235 hotels in 35 states.

About 50 WoodSpring hotels have opened since July 2015, 11 are scheduled to open this year and 25 more are listed as in development.

The anticipated cost of the project was left blank on the county building per- mit, which was filed May 29.

While the rise of Airbnb has been disrupting the lodg- ing industry, developers have continued to charge ahead, building new hotels in the Dayton region.

The Miller Lane area, near the Interstate 70 and 75 inter- change, also recently gained a new Home2 Suites by Hil- ton and a Springhill Suites. Home2 Suites is designed to be a millennial focused brand with large common areas to socialize, pushing back as Airbnb grabs more market share of millennial travelers in particular.

To the south, a new five- story hotel is also proposed in Dayton near Elizabeth Place, down the street from a new Holiday Inn Express.
