YOUSUF KARSH: AMERICAN PORTRAITS: Noon today and 11 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday at The Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park, N., Dayton. During a career that spanned six decades, photograph­er Yousuf Karsh (19082002) created iconic portraits of many of the 20th century’s most influentia­l men and women - from fields as diverse as business, medicine, entertainm­ent, politics and the arts.

“GUYS AND DOLLS”: 4 p.m. at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church, 326 E. Dayton Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn. Performanc­e includes a dessert buffet with all ticket proceeds serving as a fundraiser for the music program. WOOD INVITATION­AL: 6 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday through Saturday at Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery, 111 Corry St., Yellow Springs. Artwork by 10 wood artists. Show runs through July 15. Gallery hours 1 to 4 p.m. Wed. through Sun. This is a show for lovers of wood. Handcrafte­d tables and chairs, inlaid nature scenes in 100-year-old barn wood box frames, sleek wood sculptures, beautiful bowls, intricate boxes and humorous, sometimes sassy wall art.

DEBRA RICHARDSON WOOD AND CRAIG SCREVEN “EXPLORING THE WORLD OF ART”: 9 a.m. today through Friday at Central State University Dayton, 840 Germantown St., Dayton. Artwork on display includes a variety of media from digital and wood carved prints to oil and acrylic paintings. The exhibit runs through July 27. Viewing hours are Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FRIDAY

FIRST FRIDAY AT FRONT STREET: 5 to 9 p.m. at The Front Street Building Co., 1001 E. 2nd St., Dayton. Part of the First Friday art hop that takes place throughout downtown Dayton. Over a dozen artists including painters, sculptors, jewelers, mixed media artists, glass makers and more open their studio galleries for viewers to tour and meet the artists themselves.

KELLEY GUNTER BOOK SIGNING: “YOU HAVE SUCH A PRETTY FACE”: 6 to 9 p.m. at Edward A. Dixon Gallery, 12 S. Ludlow St., Dayton. Gunter will be selling and signing books and related merchandis­e. Come see the art in the gallery. Refreshmen­ts provided and free parking at street meters after 6 p.m. SOUL FACES—ADVENTURES IN CLAY: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Secret Eden, 1075 W. Siebenthal­er Ave., Dayton. Come join us for a unique, relaxing and fun evening creating your own “Soul Face” in clay. Weather permitting will be outdoors. No art or clay experience is needed. We provide the space, step by step guidance and all art supplies. BYOB – wine and/or beer only, and we will provide light snacks, bottle openers and wine glasses. Must be 21 years old to attend.
