MHRS awarded $362K to fight opioid addiction

- STAFF REPORT

Mental Health Recovery Services of Warren & Clinton Counties (MHRS), the local board of mental health and addiction services, was awarded $362,980 in Year 2 CURES Act funding for services to help residents with opiate addiction.

The funding, part of the 21st Century CURES Act approved by Congress in 2016, will be directed toward enhancing peer services, vocational services, kinship care and medication assisted treatment. The programs funded by the grant will serve adults currently in jail, recovery housing and/or community settings. The services will be provided through MHRS partner agencies including Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio, Solutions Community Counseling & Recovery Centers, and Beech Acres Parenting Center.

Minorities, however, are less likely to be diagnosed and get treatment for a mental illness. Further, they tend to have less access to mental health services.

Minority Mental Health Awareness Month provides an opportunity to address the needs of people — our neighbors, friends and family — who need greater access. Learn more at https://minorityhealth.hhs.gov/omh/content.aspx?ID=9447&lvl=2&lvlid=12.
