Police: Man tried to assault cops, medic

- DAYTON

A Centerville man was accused of trying to assault police and medics while they were attempting to administer Narcan to him during an overdose call, police said.

Michael Knab, 28, was taken into custody and booked into jail on suspicion of attempted assault; however, has not been formally charged.

Knab was arrested after he was discharged from Southview Hospital Wednesday afternoon, police said. The incident was said to have happened earlier this week.

Knab is the same man police arrested during a brief standoff on Hampton Road in April in which he filed a false shooting report.

He was found guilty of making a false report and abuse of 911 following a trial in the April case, records show.

A 23-year-old man who shot another man multiple times Wednesday told police he shot his would-be robber.

Police were called at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to the Marathon gas station and convenience store at 119 N. James H. McGee Blvd. in Dayton.

The 911 caller said the other man, who also was armed, fled in a blue Chevrolet Cruze, but not before he dropped his gun, according to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center.

The shooting victim, a 22-year-old man, was shot multiple times, Dayton police Lt. Steven Bauer said.

A worker said the incident happened at one of the gas pumps.

The gunshot victim was found inside his car a short distance away on Home Avenue near U.S. 35 and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, the lieutenant said.

Yellow crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot, and the shooter was in back of a cruiser while police investigated, and the Marathon station and Subway restaurant inside were closed.

Bauer said two weapons were recovered, and police are trying to determine exactly what happened.

“There was clearly some type of confrontation. What stemmed it or what caused it is what were still investigating,” Bauer said.
