What to expect at this year’s county fairs
All county fairs share a great deal in common as far as food and entertainment, but here are the unique features you can expect at this year’s Butler and Warren County fairs.
BUTLER COUNTY FAIR
The Butler County Fair’s evening entertainment includes a rodeo, a demolition derby, and three kinds of tractor pulls (garden, antique, and semi). Traditional favorites The major draws at the Butler County Fair are the demolition derby and the tractor pulls — causing the fair parking lot to overflow, forcing folks to park at Hamilton schools — and Triple Treat Shows, the familyowned, Cincinnati-based carnival company that provides the rides.
New at the fair Broken Horn Rodeo, a family-owned rodeo company based in Ripley, Ohio, is providing the bull-riding and roping fun at the Butler County Fair for the first time. This is also the second year for the Cincinnati Circus, a full-service, Cincinnati-based circus entertainment company that does over 150 acts, from daredevil stunts to comedy and hypnosis.
Special deals Wednesday, July 25, is both Senior and Veterans Day, where seniors and military veterans receive free admission. Sunday is Farm Bureau Day, where member farmers receive free admission.
WARREN COUNTY FAIR
The Warren County Fair’s evening entertainment includes a demolition derby, a rodeo, harness racing, a tractor pull, and truck and ATV drag racing, courtesy of KOI. Traditional favorites The Little Miss & Mister Contest features two age classes (3 months to 3 years and 4 to 8 years old). The kids are judged by dress, poise, and beauty. The car show has been expanded into a car, truck, and motorcycle cruise-in with raffle prizes. The Junior Fair Livestock Exhibit features over 1,000 exhibitors showing rabbits, llamas, goats, lambs, and others.
New at the fair
The Fearless Flores Thrill Show boasts a high-wire act, a globe of death, and an aerial swaypole where daredevils perch 60 feet up in the air.
Mutts Gone Nuts, a comic dog circus show, will also be making its Warren County Fair debut.
Special deals Monday, July 16, is both Senior Day (free admission for seniors), and the first full day of the fair, where you can get in for $5 (admission is $8 the rest of the week). Tuesday, July 17, is Veterans Day, where military veterans receive free admission.
