State helps with Sugarcreek probe
Fatal shooting led to police pursuit early Wednesday morning.
State investigators are assisting Sugarcreek Twp. police as they investigate a fatal shooting that led to a police pursuit early Wednesday morning.
A suspect has not been named, no arrests have been announced and police are not releasing many details about what happened.
The Greene County Coroner’s Office identified the victim of the fatal shooting at Cedar Trail Apartments as 29-year-old Byron Moses, of Dayton.
Moses was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
Preliminary findings for cause and manner of death were not released by the coroner’s office.
Sugarcreek Twp. Police Chief Michael Brown said officers responded shortly after midnight to the 1800 block of Surrey Trail and found the victim with gunshot wounds in the hallway of the apartment building.
As they arrived on scene, the responding officers noticed a black Cadillac leaving the area at a high rated speed, police said.
The officers pursued the vehicle down Wilmington Pike to I-675, but the pursuit was called off when it reached the city of Dayton. Police said the vehicle was last seen on I-75 North from U.S. 35.
Police did take one man in for questioning at the scene. The unidentified man approached officers at the scene and told them he was inside the apartment with a woman when the victim began knocking on the door.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting local authorities in the investigation.
Brown said Ohio BCI investigators was called to process the scene because they are welltrained technicians and investigators.
