Enon cop arrested in stabbing incident
A part-time police officer and another man were arrested Wednesday after a woman was stabbed in the neck and left in critical condition.
Enon Police Officer Dwight Richard, 49, and Tyler Minton, 31, were arrested at the same address of the stabbing and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of felonious assault, records show.
The stabbing was reported in the 11000 block of Wolf Creek Pike in Perry Twp. late Tuesday evening. In a call to police, Richard identified himself as an off-duty police officer and asked Minton not to shoot him.
“Tyler please don’t shoot me,” Richard said on the 911 call. “I love you, please don’t.”
In the call, Richard also told police there were multiple weapons around the house and was around 100 yards away from the house when police arrived.
Richard told authorities the victim was stabbed in the neck. The victim was transported to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries, police said.
“I’ve gone out back because I think he has a weapon,” Richard said. “There are multiple firearms in the house and I believe he has one.”
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was assisting in the investigation on Wednesday, and evidence markers were still on the road and driveway on Wednesday morning.
The stabbing was an isolated incident, police said. Police have not yet said what role the men played in the stabbing, and the identity of the victim was not immediately available.
As of Wednesday afternoon, formal charges against the men were still pending, per records. On Wednesday, Enon Police Chief Lew Wilcox told this news organization he was unable to comment at the time.
In Ohio, felonious assault is a second degree felony and carries a prison term of between two and eight years.
This isn’t the first time a local officer has been arrested this year. In May, Clay Twp. police officer Martin D. Stringfellow was arrested charged with misdemeanor domestic violence against a child after he allegedly hit a child at his home in Brookville. According to records, the child had severe bruising on the face.
