Lima man facing rape, drug charges
A Lima man accused LIMA — of two rape incidents and with being a major dealer of cocaine entered pleas of not guilty Monday in Allen County Common Pleas Court to a variety of felony charges.
If convicted on all 11 counts filed against him, Terrez Carter, 45, faces up to 117 years behind bars.
Carter was one of several Lima men taken into custody during pre-dawn drug raids conducted June 14 as part of an FBI probe into the trafficking of cocaine in Allen County. More than a dozen men described by authorities as “large-quantity” dealers of cocaine and crack cocaine were arrested during those raids. Eight of those suspects face federal trafficking charges.
Carter was indicted last week by an Allen County grand jury on three counts of first-degree felony rape in connection with an alleged rape that occurred on or about April 19 at a residence in the 700 block of North Metcalf Street in Lima.
Three additional rape charges, also first-degree felonies, were filed against Carter for alleged incidents that took place in 2015 in Allen County, and each included a three-year specification stating a firearm was used during the commission of the crimes. The alleged rape victim in the 2018 case was different from the victim in the 2015 case, court officials said.
Two kidnapping charges, each first-degree felonies, were included in the indictment — each related to the alleged rape incidents.
Carter was also indicted for possession of a bulk amount — between 27 and 100 grams — of cocaine, a felony of the first degree. Two counts of having weapons as a previously-convicted felon, third-degree felonies, rounded out the indictment against Carter.
In summary, the indictment included six counts of rape, two kidnappings, two counts of having weapons while under disability and one possession of cocaine charge.
Carter was indicted last month in a separate case on charges of possession of cocaine, a first-degree felony with a three-year firearm specification, and having weapons which under disability, a third-degree felony.
During Monday’s arraignment hearing, Judge Jeffrey Reed said the two cases have been combined for purposes of pre-trial hearings for the present time. Carter’s next pre-trial is scheduled for Aug. 20.
Carter has retained Lima attorney John Fisher as his defense counsel.
