School supply drive

- STAFF REPORT

The Mall at Fairfield Commons will hold its first annual “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive until Friday. School supplies will be donated to a local non-profit in need, For Love of Children (FLOC). The mission of FLOC is to provide support to youth, newborn to age 18, throughout the greater Dayton area.

Their efforts extend to all of Dayton’s area youth; however, they typically assist those children who have been abused, neglected or in foster care. Dayton Public Schools is just one of the school districts that will be receiving these items from FLOC.

Community members are asked to participate by donating new school supplies. Suggested items for donation include binders, colored pencils, composition books, construction paper, erasers, glue sticks, notebooks, pencils, pens, pocket folders, spiral notebooks and backpacks.

Items can be delivered to the Mall at Fairfield Commons during normal mall hours. The Mall has partnered with Dayton Public Schools and they’ve graciously provided a bus that you can stuff these items into inside of the main entrance of the Mall on the lower level (near Flyboy’s Deli and Bravo). The deadline for donations is Aug. 3.

The Mall at Fairfield Commons will also be holding a “Stuff the Bus” KidX event in Center Court on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. During this time the public is asked to “Stuff the Bus” by bringing their donated items to help fill the bus with all of the essential items kids need at the start of the new school year. Family-friendly activities will include a scavenger hunt where kids will search for supplies around the mall to place in a backpack that will then be stuffed into the bus and donated to FLOC.
