Danielle George, firstyear teacher, Dixie Middle School
When I interviewed for my social studies position at Dixie Middle School, the interview panel told me Dixie is a family.
After finishing my first year at DMS I couldn’t agree more.
The teachers, staff and administrators are among the most supportive and encouraging educators I have known. When I walk through the halls I can feel the positive energy and growth mindset of our DMS team. Of course, when talking about the Dixie “family,” the kids are the most important.
The students at Dixie Middle School are creative, compassionate, and hard-working. I love that Dixie’s goals and mindset focus on both the academic and the social-emotional development of students. The amount of growth I saw in my seventh graders throughout the year was absolutely astounding.
New Lebanon’s focus on growth is not limited to students. I was impressed by the number of professional development opportunities the district offers. As a new teacher I received mentorship and took part in trainings with teachers from all around Montgomery County. Within the district, I was able to work and learn with other social studies teachers to find ways to strengthen my curriculum and instruction.
DMS also provided many opportunities for teachers to interact and share new technology, resources and ideas. Even as a new teacher, I felt my ideas were valued and appreciated. I am very excited to continue working at Dixie Middle School and cannot wait to see what growth my “beautiful, wonderful people” will have next year!
