YOUSUF KARSH: AMERICAN PORTRAITS: Noon today and 11 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday at The Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park, N., Dayton. During a career that spanned six decades, photograph­er Yousuf Karsh (19082002) created iconic portraits of many of the 20th century’s most influentia­l men and women - from fields as diverse as business, medicine, entertainm­ent, politics and the arts. Karsh photograph­ed countless internatio­nal figures, but his images of Americans are counted among his finest portraits. This exhibition features 48 black-and-white photograph­s from the National Portrait Gallery’s collection.

ART OF THE ANCIENT AMERICAS GALLERY: Noon today and 11 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday at The Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park, N., Dayton. Showcase of the rich artistic traditions and the remarkable cultures that created these impressive objects from the Olmecs of Mexico to the Inkas of Peru and spanning 2,500 years. “PLACES FAR, NEAR, AND DEAR”:6 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday through Friday at Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery, 111 Corry St., Yellow Springs. Art by Anna Arbor and Catherine Lehman. Arbor will exhibit water color paintings and paper constructi­ons of scenes inspired by her visits to Mexico, Brazil and the southwest in the United States. Using nature as her inspiratio­n, Lehman is currently using acrylic paint, watercolor or pencil. Show runs through Aug. 12. Gallery hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wed. through Sun.

DP&L FOUNDATION ANNUAL OPEN MEMBERS’ SHOW: THE LIGHT WITHIN: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dayton Visual Arts Center, 118 N. Jefferson St., Dayton. A celebratio­n of our arts community with 120 works by local member artists on display. The show concludes today with a gallery talk and closing reception.
