Premier targets Washington Twp. for urgent care

- By Kaitlin Schroeder Staff Writer

An urgent care center could open in a Washington Twp. storefront that was formerly home to Boston Stoker.

Premier Health filed a building permit with Montgomery County seeking to renovate the space into an urgent care center.

Dayton-based Premier Health — a network of hospitals and other health service providers — has been opening a series of urgent care centers in the area. The proposed location in a Washington Twp. shopping center would be Premier’s ninth urgent care center in the region.

The shopping center at the corner of Whipp Road and Far Hills Avenue is anchored by Dorothy Lane Market.

Messages were left with Premier Health and with Washington Twp. seeking more information about the urgent care and project timeline.

At Premier’s other locations, the urgent care staff treats minor conditions like sinus infections, ear aches, allergies and pink eye, as well as injuries such as fractured bones. The locations that have opened so far have been open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The first urgent care locations in the series were announced in December and opened this spring.

Locations have opened in Englewood, Huber Heights, Mason, Miamisburg, Springboro, Troy and Vandalia.

Premier is also preparing to open an urgent care center in a shopping center in Beavercreek along North Fairfield Road.

Premier is the largest private employer in the region and operates Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Atrium Medical Center in Middletown and a large network of physicians and outpatient centers.

The Boston Stoker shop that had been where the urgent care is proposed closed when a larger store opened at 215 S. Main St. in Centerville.
