A New Carlisle woman is accused of climbing over a fence to escape from the Clark County Jail and then stealing a vehicle Sunday afternoon.

Alisha Salyer, 25, is charged with escape and receiving stolen property in Clark County Municipal Court. She pleaded not guilty to the felony charges. She also was charged with driving under a license forfeiture suspension and driving under a noncompliance suspension. Salyer’s bond was set at $6,000.

Clark County Sheriff ’s deputies began their investigation when an alert was sent that Salyer had escaped, an affidavit filed with the charge says.

“At approximately (4 p.m.) inmate Alisha Salyer had climbed the northeast corner of the interior fence for the trailers, Ms. Salyer then went over the top of the fence and attempted to climb down the exterior but fell on her way down possibly injuring her ankle.”

According to court documents, that’s when she removed her uniform and ran away.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeffery Meyer said officers from the Springfield Police Division saw her walking but were unaware there was an inmate escape at the time.

Springfield police received a report of a car stolen from the Springfield Museum of Art around 4:25 p.m. Sunday and Meyer said deputies believed it to be Salyer.

Deputies and officers began a search for her which ended at her home on North Church Street.

“Ms. Salyer was later found in front of her residence in possession of a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo black in color,” the affidavit says.

That’s when she informed authorities she was injured. She was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center to be treated for possible injuries, the affidavit says.

“It was determined she had fractured several bones in her feet from the fall from the top of the fence,” Meyer said. Contact Allyson Brown at 937328-0356 or email Allyson. Brown@coxinc.com. Contact Parker Perry at 937-328-0254 or email Parker.Perry@coxinc. com.
