Jordy Tshimanga, a 6-foot-11 native of Canada, will transfer to Dayton from the University of Nebraska and sit out this season.

The Dayton Flyers added a big man Tuesday.

The Flyers announced that Jordy Tshimanga will transfer to Dayton from the University of Nebraska.

Tshimanga, a 6-foot-11 native of Montreal, Canada, will have to sit out this season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

He averaged 4.0 points and 4.6 rebounds in 13.6 minutes last season for the Cornhuskers.

Dayton coach Anthony Grant said he is excited to add Tshimanga to the program and praised his combination of size, experience and skill.

“His abilities as a post player, a rim protector and a rebounder at both ends of the floor will fit into our style of play very well,” Grant said via a release.

Tshimanga will bring 62 games of college basketball experience to the Flyers and a big presence in practice over the next year.

“He will greatly benefit from a year of learning our system while continuing to improve his body and skill set during his redshirt season,” Grant added. “Having someone of his size and abilities to go against in practice every day will be an asset to our team this season. He is a good student, and a great fit to our team culture.”

Tshimanga became a four-star recruit in three seasons at The MacDuffie School in Granby, Mass. His 14 offers out of high school

included Arizona, LSU, Minnesota, Oregon, Purdue and UNLV, according to the UD release.

He was born in Canada, but his family is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Tshimanga’s brother, Link Kabadyunki, played college basketball at TCU and UT-Arlington while sisters Yasmine Bidkuindila (LSU) and Florence Tshimanga (Grand Canyon) are also college basketball players. Younger brothers Emmanuel and Nathan Tshimanga are high school basketball players in Arizona.

The Flyers’ 2018-19 roster includes three players who will be sitting out as transfers. Guards Rodney Chatman (formerly of Chattanooga) and Ibi Watson (Michigan) join Tshimanga.

Dayton returns four starters — forward Josh Cunningham, guards Trey Landers, Jordan Davis and Jalen Crutcher — from a 14-17 campaign last season. Ryan Mikesell (return from injury), redshirt freshman Obi Toppin, junior college transfer Jhery Matos and true freshmen Dwayne Cohill and Frankie Policelli round out the nine scholarship players available for the Flyers this season.
