A Butler County aircraft engine producer has been awarded a nearly $80 million contract to work for the U.S. Navy and Australia.

CFM International Inc., which has offices in West Chester Twp., has been awarded a $79,981,638 firm-fixed-price contract for the procurement of five CFM567B27AE airplane engines, four CFM56-7B27AE engine compressor cases and four associated kits for the Navy, the Department of Defense said Monday.

Also part of the order is one CFM56-7B27AE engine for the government of Australia in support of the P-8 Poseidon aircraft, the government said.

Just over half of the work on the aircraft engines will be performed in Villaroche, France (53 percent, according to the DoD’s summary), with 43 percent of the work being performed in Durham, N.C.

Three percent of the contract will be performed in Singapore and 1 percent in Canada.

Work is expected to be completed in September 2019.
