Make a Difference Day 2018 set

-

Volunteers across our great nation will be participating in National Make A Difference Day, Saturday, Oct. 27. This day of service was instituted in 1992 by USA Today in collaboration with Points of Light.

For more than two decades, the city of Kettering has participated in this largest national day of community service.

In an effort to spread some holiday joy, volunteers from a host of organizations will be creating handmade holiday greeting cards that will be enclosed in packages sent by the Blue Star Mothers to our active duty military members serving throughout the world.

Volunteers will also be creating handmade holiday placemats to be distributed to local nursing homes. These projects will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at two locations in Kettering – Central Christian Church, 1200 Forrer Blvd. and Christ Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd. This project is suited for families, scout groups, student organizations and anyone looking for ways to make a positive impact in our community and throughout the world.

Each year, through the Cities of Service Initiative, the city of Kettering selects a neighborhood to celebrate. The 2018 neighborhood is the Haverstick Neighborhood located north of Forrer Blvd., east of Wilmington Pike, west of Smithville Rd., and south of the corporate boundary.

In June, a neighborhood block party was held to kick off the celebration. As part of this initiative, volunteers will be on hand for Make A Difference Day to help property owners in need of assistance with outside clean-up such as leaf raking, debris removal and general yard maintenance.

All projects will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 27.

If you would like to join the Make A Difference Day effort, please contact the Volunteer Office at 296-2433 or email marylou. randolph@ketteringoh.org for additional details. If you reside in the Haverstick Neighborhood and could use a little help with yard maintenance, please contact the Volunteer Office.

“The City of Kettering is proud to participate in this day of service when millions of people throughout our nation unite in one common mission – to improve the lives of others,” said Kettering Mayor Don Patterson.
