Record rainfall over the weekend dampened area festivals and events, caused isolated flooding, power outages and swollen waterways.

Saturday’s 2.7 inches of rain reported at the Dayton International Airport drenched the previous Sept. 8 record of 0.92 inches as the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon soaked the area.

The good news is today should mark a turn toward warmer and drier days. The forecast calls for highs in the 60s today, the 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday and maybe even back in the 80s by Thursday and the upcoming weekend.

But the clear skies came too late for the Beavercreek Popcorn Festival, which ended early Saturday and didn’t reopen on Sunday.

Sunday’s Eichelberger Jazz Series concert featuring Paulie Cerra and Groove Legacy at Levitt Pavilion in downtown Dayton was canceled due to the weather.

The Italian Fall Festa and Dayton Greek Festivals remained open, but altered policies to attract customers. The Fall Festa offered to-go food options on Saturday and Sunday. The Greek Festival had free admission both days and offered take-and-bake bulk food items.

More than 1,000 Dayton Power & Light customers had power knocked out during the weekend but most had electricity restored by Sunday afternoon.

The threat for rivers to rise should end today but without a major impact. Those waterways expected to rise include the Great Miami in Sidney, Troy, Taylorsville, Miamisburg and Dayton and the Stillwater River near Englewood.
