BEAVERCREEK HOSPITAL STARTS WORK ON ADDITION

- By Kaitlin Schroeder Staff Writer

The Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center kicked off the construction of a $70 million five-story tower, which will add 170,000 square feet to the Beavercreek hospital.

Soin, part of Kettering Health Network, will house surgical services, cardiac services, private inpatient rooms and unused space that leaves room for more expansion.

Construction is expected to be completed the summer of 2020. Miamisburg-based Danis is leading the project.

“It seems like not a month or a year goes by that we aren’t moving forward in some fashion of expansion or growth,” said Kettering Health CEO Fred Manchur said.

Soin now has 157 beds but will add about 24 new beds in the first phase of the project and about 90 new beds in the second phase.

The hospital opened in 2012 and has regularly expanded since, doubling the ER in 2015, building out the fifth floor in 2016 and in 2017 expanding the infusion center and clinical exam rooms.

In May, the hospital cut the ribbon for an 8,300-square-foot radiation therapy center.

The additional services will mean additional revenue at the hospital. Soin Medical Center in 2016 had $126 million in net patient revenue and ended the year on a 0.4 percent margin, according to the Ohio Health Market Review, which analyzes federal health care data.

While Kettering Health operates the only hospital in Beavercreek, Kettering’s chief competitor, Premier Health, is also making investments in the eastern suburb, which could help drive referrals to Premier’s hospitals and specialists.

About a mile and a half down the street, off North Fairfield Road behind a Chick-fil-A, Premier just announced plans to build a $9 million medical center with primary and specialty care practices. Premier is also opening a Beavercreek urgent care center in front of Target.
