Man dies after crash in McDonald’s lot

A 28-year-old male was killed in the parking lot of McDonald’s, 4770 N. Main St., at around 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by a 32-year-old male, was in the drive-thru line at McDonald’s when some type of physical altercation occurred between the occupants of the Mercury Mountaineer, occupants of a Lincoln Towncar and occupants of a Toyota Camry.

During the altercation, the Mercury Mountaineer drove north through the parking lot and struck a large rock, which caused the vehicle to travel over a concrete wall and flip on its side, the release said.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, but the 28-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the suspect arrested, but Joshua Jamar Cooper, 31, was arrested at Dollar General and booked around 6 p.m. into the Montgomery County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor theft, jail records show.
