A Dayton woman suspected of stealing a Jeep and prompting a high-speed Moraine police chase resulting in the death of an area Realtor has been indicted on grand theft, court records show.

Alyssa Irwin-Debraux, 18, has been in the Montgomery County Jail since Sept. 11, when she was booked on suspicion of grand theft after the fatal collision that night on Ohio 741 in Miami Twp. involving Moraine Officer Matt Barrie and Mary Taulbee, who was not involved in the chase.

Irwin-Debraux was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on that charge Monday.

Irwin-Debraux is scheduled to be arraigned on the grand theft charge Thursday, records show. Police said they expect more charges to be filed against the defendant.

Taulbee, a 57-year-old Lebanon Realtor who worked in Dayton, Englewood, Lebanon, Miamisburg, Springboro and Washington Twp., was taken to Kettering Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Irwin-Debraux was taken into custody after flipping a stolen Jeep near the Dayton Mall and attempting to flee police, authorities said.

The Jeep had been reported stolen about 6:10 p.m. that day by a Harrison Twp. owner who said she had tracked the vehicle by GPS to Ohio 741 in Moraine, records show.

That information was relayed from Montgomery County regional dispatch to Moraine police. By 6:15 p.m., Barrie said he spotted a Jeep matching the stolen vehicle’s description on Ohio 741, according to police documents.

Records show Barrie sought to conduct a traffic stop on the Jeep before it ran a red light at Jomar Avenue and he received permission to chase the vehicle.

The chase continued south on Ohio 741 into Miami Twp. with Barrie recording speeds up 80 mph, according to Moraine records.

The fatal crash at Carnation Road began when a Chrysler driven by Brandon Miller of Centerville and a Hyundai driven by Taulbee collided while heading north, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Miller’s vehicle “moved right to avoid the ( Jeep) and struck the left rear” of Taulbee’s car, initial reports indicate.

“The Hyundai then traveled across the center lane and was struck by the southbound patrol car,” according to OSP.
