Chicago Med, 8 PM on Ch.

2 and Ch. 5: Molly Bernard and Colby Lewis join the cast in recurring roles, playing newly arrived medical students, as this hit medical drama returns for Season 4, launching a programmin­g block that finds executive producer Dick Wolf ’s three Chicago-based dramas airing back-toback. Series regulars Nick Gehlfuss, Torrey DeVitto, Colin Donnell, Oliver Platt, Rachel DiPillo and S. Epatha Merkerson also return to their familiar roles. “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.” immediatel­y follow.

Empire, 8 PM on Ch. 19 and

Ch. 45: Although it’s been two bitter years since they lost control of their Empire to Eddie Barker (guest star Forest Whitaker), Cookie and Lucious (Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard) still haven’t finished picking up the pieces as this musical drama opens its fifth season with “Steal From the Thief.” A promising new singer and rapper named Treasure (guest star Kaitlyn Simone) may hold the key to reversing the Lyons family fortunes, however. Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray also star.

A Million Little Things, 10

PM on Ch. 22 and Ch. 9: It’s easy to describe this new drama as a “Big Chill” for today — and also reasonably accurate. Boston friends are drawn back together by the death of a mutual peer (Ron Livingston, seen in frequent flashbacks), prompting the survivors to take stock of their current lives and decide whether changes are necessary. The ensemble cast also includes James Roday (“Psych”), Christina Ochoa (of last season’s ”Valor”), David Giuntoli (“Grimm”), Romany Malco and Stephanie Szostak (“Satisfacti­on”).
