No charges for officer who shot man Shoplifting suspect taken into custody
A Dayton police officer who shot a man on Verona Road in June will not face criminal charges, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutors’ Office.
A grand jury declined to indict officer Zachary Banks for shooting and injuring Deshawn Trae McGee on June 6.
McGee was shot after he exited a vehicle on Verona Road and was armed with a handgun, Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said in June.
McGee was shot multiple times, receiving non-life threatening injuries.
Police were first dispatched to the area of a Shell gas station to investigate a report of shots fired. A vehicle, described as “blackedout” was located. When police approached the vehicle, McGee exited with a gun and was shot, police said.
The incident was the first officer-involved shooting in Dayton in 2018, Biehl said.
A 15-year-old girl accused of abducting a 9-month-old boy, leading to an Amber Alert, made an appearance in a Montgomery County juvenile court Tuesday afternoon.
Denials, similar to a not guilty plea, were entered by a magistrate for the teen on charges of kidnapping, theft, and obstruction of justice.
She indicated she understood the charges filed against her, using only one word answers.
She has been ordered to remain in the custody of the Juvenile Detention Center.
A woman accused of changing into clothes she hadn’t paid for at the Wayne Avenue Family Dollar was taken into custody after spitting on a customer, according to Dayton police.
Endia Williams, 31, was arrested on suspicion of theft, refusing to disclose personal information, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and harassment by inmate.
An officer was reportedly flagged down by the store manager around 6:34 p.m. Monday.
The manager claimed that Williams went to the store and changed out of her clothes into a new outfit that she hadn’t purchased.
Williams reportedly left her old clothes in the store and started to walk out.
