DAGSO’S SQUARE CHALLENGE ART EXHIBIT: 9 a.m. at Rosewood Arts Centre, 2655 Olson Dr., Kettering. The Decorative Artists Guild of Southwestern Ohio (DAGSO) members were given a 10” x 10” wooden square to paint on for this challenge. They could use any medium and paint any subject. JUAN-SI GONZALES, DISPLACEMENT: COLLECTIVE PRACTICE TO RECOVER MEMORY: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Rosewood Arts Centre, 2655 Olson Dr., Kettering. On view through Nov. 16. Opening reception: Thursday, Oct. 18, 6 to 8 p.m. Consideration of the topics of visual memory and geographic displacement, includes the accumulation of individual and family photographs provided by community members, the archives of the City of Kettering and original works by González. JEWISH CULTURAL ARTS AND BOOK FESTIVAL: 7 p.m. at Carillon Brewing Co., 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton. Disarmed with author Izzy Ezagui, an American who enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces at 19 and lost his arm in a mortar attack on the border of the Gaza Strip. Ezagui recounts his tortuous trek through rehabilitation to becoming the world’s only one-armed Special Forces sharpshooter.

JEWISH CULTURAL ARTS AND BOOK FESTIVAL: 7 p.m. at Boonshoft Center for Jewish Culture & Education, 525 Versailles Dr., Dayton. This Narrow Space with author Dr. Elisha Waldman, who spent seven years in Jerusalem treating children - Israeli Jews, Muslims, Christians and Palestinian Arabs - who had all been diagnosed with cancer. Waldman details both his accomplishments as well as his frustration when politics and cultural differences got in the way of his patients’ care.
