The $3.1 million WASHINGTON TWP. — Nutt Road project in Washington Twp. has reached its final stages and is now open to traffic while a few construction items are completed.

The remaining work includes final restoration of the storage yard across from School House Park and a sidewalk and driveway for the storage yard, according to township officials.

The first phase began in 1996 when a 4,800-foot section was widened from State Route 48 to Quailwood Trail. Phase 2, a 2,100foot stretch from Quailwood to west of School House Park, was completed in 2010.

The project now includes widening Nutt Road to three lanes between School House Park and Clyo Road with the exception of a small section near 2021 Nutt Road, where a 24-inch gas pipeline crosses.

Township Administrator Jesse Lightle said the project will improve safety.

“When the Nutt Road project is complete, it will improve driver and pedestrian safety with wider lanes and the addition of turn lanes and sidewalks,” she said. “In order to improve safety, the road profile was lowered by about 5 feet in a small section of Nutt Road west of Beaufort Run. This adjustment improved drivability and sight distance.”

Resident Mark Feingold had been concerned about the time it took to complete the development, but he is pleased with the finished product.

“Having driven it several times, I have to say I’m delighted with the job they did on it. It’s much safer and smoother than it was before the construction,” Feingold said.

“I have a teenage driver, and he also felt relieved that it’s not so narrow anymore and the visibility is much better. Having said that, my family still was very frustrated that Nutt was closed basically from early spring of 2017 to the fall of 2018 for a 1-mile stretch of road. I realize it wasn’t an easy job, but that was too long for an important connecting road. But they did a great job.”

Several Washington Twp. proj-

continued from B1 ects are underway that supporters said will improve infrastructure, boost business and lifestyle options, and improve public service.

The Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals (SICSA) broke ground this year on a $5 million facility that will be located on Washington Church Road, north of Lyons Road, and overlook Interstate 675. Also, Yankee Station, a popular shopping center in Washington Twp. is being renovated.

The 33,870-square-foot retail center off Ohio 725, near Interstate 675, is in a prime location where average household incomes are close to $85,000 a year.

The site is near a Chickfil-A restaurant and Whole Foods Market.
