HOW TO GO IN DAYTON:
What: “Muse: Mickalene Thomas Photographs” and “tête-à-tête”
When: Through Jan. 13. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday– Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with extended hours until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Where: Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park Drive, Dayton Admission: $14 adults; $11 seniors (60+), students (18+ w/ID), active military and groups (10 or more); $6 youth (ages 7–17); and free for members and children ages 6 and under. Equitas Health will sponsor a special Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 27, with free admission to the special exhibition and the collection galleries. Related programming: Guided tours of the exhibition are available for individuals, groups and schools. A number of events and programs will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, including An Artist Talk with Willis “Bing” Davis at 11:30 a.m. on Sat., Nov. 10; a Curatorial Conversations Exhibition Tour from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15; a “Behind the Scenes Talk” from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 and an Artist Talk with Amy Powell” at 11:30 a.m. on Sat., Dec. 8.
At “The Language of Art” — from noon to 2 p.m.on Nov. 28 and Dec. 1 — book group participants will discuss a book chosen by Mickalene Thomas, “Zadie Smith’s On Beauty.”
