The McEwen Road Bridge over Holes Creek in Washington Township was closed for reconstruction Aug. 13 and will remain closed until approximately Nov. 30, depending on the weather. Detours:
■ The southbound detour for the project is Alex Bell Road to Paragon Road to Congress Park Drive.
■ The northbound detour for the project is Congress Park Drive to Paragon Road to Alex Bell Road.
■ Hadley E. Watts Middle School and First School can only be accessed from the north from Alex Bell Road. You cannot access Middle or First School from the south. You must follow the detour.
■ Skyzone Trampoline Park and South Park Offices/Warehouse can only be accessed from Senate Drive off Congress Park Drive. You cannot access Skyzone or South Park Offices/Warehouse from the north. You must follow the detour and enter the complex at Senate Drive off Congress Park Drive.
The Montgomery County Engineer’s Office has coordinated with the Centerville City School District, and the district has re-routed school buses in the area in anticipation of the construction.
The existing bridge carries approximately 6,900 vehicles a day, and is a three-lane, fourspan slab bridge that is structurally deficient and in poor condition. Due to deterioration, one end of the bridge has been supported on jacks since 2012, and it has had reduced load restrictions since 2016.
The project consists of jacking and temporarily supporting the slab end spans to allow reconstruction of the deteriorated abutments, repair of the pier piles at the waterline and protection of the pier piles with concrete encasement. The contractor will remove and replace the deteriorated slab edges, perform a deck overlay, install new guardrails on the east side and construct a parapet wall with a new 5-foot sidewalk on the west side.
