The Great American Read, 8 PM on Ch. 16 and Ch. 48; 12 AM on Ch. 16:

Hosted by Meredith Vieira, this eightpart series launched a national initiative designed to cast a national spotlight on the joys of reading. Each week found avid readers sharing their enthusiasm for favorite literary works on social media, as authors from several genres discussed their own works in earlier episodes. Tonight’s “Grand Finale” reveals the title of America’s bestloved novel, as selected by readers via online voting.

Native America, 9 PM on Ch. 16 and Ch. 48; 1 AM on Ch. 16 and Ch. 48:

Robbie Robertson of The Band narrates this ambitious new four-part series, which weaves modern science and scholarshi­p into Native American traditions and oral history to illuminate a world created by America’s First Peoples. Fittingly, the series opens with “From Caves to Cosmos,” which examines the question of who these people were, with answers revealed by Amazonian cave paintings, Mexican burial chambers and New Mexico’s Chaco Canyon. The remaining episodes air on Oct. 30 and Nov. 13.

The Guest Book, 10 PM on TBS; 11 PM on TBS:

A different guest retreat — this one in a beachside community — is the setting as this comic anthology series opens Season 2 with two new back-to-back half hours. Vivian and Eddie (Carly Jibson, Eddie Steeples) from Season 1 have relocated to this new locale, hoping to make a fresh start, and they soon befriend the proprietor­s of a restaurant and adjacent vacation home. Joey Diaz, Kether Donohue and Nat Faxon guest star in the season premiere.
