KETTERING MARKET SELLS $1 MILLION WINNING LOTTERY TICKET
Bee-Gee’s Mini Market is the top Mega Millions retailer in its region.
A Kettering market KETTERING — sold a $1 million ticket in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, just the latest prize originating at the store that is one of the most active in lottery winnings in the area.
Bee-Gee’s Mini Market is the top seller of Mega Millions prizes and top-selling Mega Millions retailer in its region, according to the Ohio Lottery. During the last fiscal year, Bee-Gee’s sold tickets that won $21,350 in Mega Millions prizes and $220,010 overall, according to lottery officials.
No one had claimed the $1 million prize from the Bee-Gee’s ticket as of Wednesday afternoon.
Twelve other million-dollar tickets were sold among the U.S. lotteries, with Ohio selling one. The winning tickets matched all five numbers without the Mega Ball, securing the $1 million prize. BeeGee’s will receive a $1,000 sales bonus. One winning $1.6 billion Mega Millions ticket was sold in South Carolina.
A steady stream of customers poured in to the market on Wednesday looking to give the estimated $620 million Powerball jackpot a try or just buy their regular tickets.
“I’m just here to get some scratch-off tickets for a birthday present, so maybe I will have more luck,” said Pat Johnson, who added that, “I had to grab a Powerball ticket too.”
Linda Lange said she expected a line around the corner when she got to the store in the afternoon
because “people are all dreaming about cashing in on a big win.”
Ohioans have won 19 jackpot prizes and secured more than 30 winning tickets of $1 million or more.
In May, Fat Daddy’s RoadDog in Moraine sold a Mega Millions ticket worth $143 million. The winner holding the Mega Millions ticket came forward in a trust, meaning the winner’s name and other information will not be released. The store also received $100,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Last December, a group of seven people claimed a $1 million Powerball prize for a ticket that was sold at Johnson’s Grocery Store in Fairfield Twp. in August 2017.
The $1 million ticket sold at Johnson’s was Ohio’s largest prize for the Aug. 23, 2017 Powerball drawing that had a jackpot of $758.7 million.
