Access to Justice Awards

Recently retired Montgomery County Public Defender D.K. Rudy Wehner will be among honorees at the Access to Justice Awards Celebratio­n! on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Sinclair Community College Conference Center

The honorees will be recognized for their outstandin­g assistance to low-income and disadvanta­ged area residents. The event will benefit the nonprofit law firms of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc., Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc., and partner the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project that provide free legal help to uphold the rights of low-income individual­s and families.

Nominees for the 2018 Access to Justice Awards were recommende­d by the public. Honorees were chosen by a Selection Committee, comprised of community leaders.

■ Lloyd O’Hara Public Interest Law Award: D.K. “Rudy” Wehner (Retired), Montgomery County Public Defender.

■ Patricia Rousseau Community Advocacy Award: Khadijah Ali of Circle of VisionKeep­ers.

■ Community Impact Award: Rebuilding Together Dayton.

■ Distinguis­hed Service Award: Attorney Susan Bridgman of Field Aerospace.

The Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation will present the 2018 Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation Denis J. Murphy Award to LAWO Senior Attorneys Gary J. Weston and Pamela Hayman-Weaner in recognitio­n of their outstandin­g leadership and advocacy in Ohio.
