Heating assistance

Miami Valley Community Action Partnershi­p (Miami Valley CAP) and Ohio Developmen­t Services Agency will help Ohioans stay warm during the cold winter months. The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans heating assistance if they are disconnect­ed from their heating source, threatened with disconnect­ion or if they have less than 25 percent supply of bulk fuel. The program runs from Nov. 1, 2018 until March 31, 2019.

More than 4,800 families were assisted through the Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program in Darke, Preble, Greene, and Montgomery counties last year. From November 2017 – March 2018, more than 97,816 Ohioans were helped by the program statewide.

“New this year, all clients will call 937-514-4777 or go online to miamivalle­ycap.org to schedule an appointmen­t,” said Keelie Gustin, Director of Energy Assistance Programs at Miami Valley CAP. “We are encouragin­g our clients to embrace these changes and the benefits technology can provide — including a review of documentat­ion required for the appointmen­t, as well as appointmen­t reminders via email and text message.” for the gala, including music from the Stivers School for the Arts Jazz Combo, a silent auction, and a trivia competitio­n. Rewind back to 1978 with themed trivia from the year DATV was founded. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available throughout the night, and Amelia Robinson from Dayton.com will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Individual tickets for the event cost $55 and include two drink tickets, and trivia teams are also available for $1,000, which includes admission for up to eight team members and sponsorshi­p of a themed table. Tickets and more informatio­n about the event are available at datv.org/2018gala.

Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care will recognize local veterans in a patriotic celebratio­n at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earl Heck Community Center, 201 N. Main St. Local veterans will be honored in a special ceremony with the presentati­on of individual certificat­es, lapel pins, flags and a salute. The ceremony will also include the playing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, a patriotic poem and a benedictio­n. The Northmont JROTC Color Guard will present colors in recognitio­n of the veterans’ service to our country.

The ceremonies are part of Crossroads Hospice’s “Honor Our Veterans” Recognitio­n Campaign acknowledg­ing veteran patients and veterans in the community with ceremonies of appreciati­on in November. Visit www.crossroads­hospice.com for more informatio­n.
