Heating assistance
Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (Miami Valley CAP) and Ohio Development Services Agency will help Ohioans stay warm during the cold winter months. The Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans heating assistance if they are disconnected from their heating source, threatened with disconnection or if they have less than 25 percent supply of bulk fuel. The program runs from Nov. 1, 2018 until March 31, 2019.
More than 4,800 families were assisted through the Home Energy Assistance Winter Crisis Program in Darke, Preble, Greene, and Montgomery counties last year. From November 2017 – March 2018, more than 97,816 Ohioans were helped by the program statewide.
“New this year, all clients will call 937-514-4777 or go online to miamivalleycap.org to schedule an appointment,” said Keelie Gustin, Director of Energy Assistance Programs at Miami Valley CAP. “We are encouraging our clients to embrace these changes and the benefits technology can provide — including a review of documentation required for the appointment, as well as appointment reminders via email and text message.” for the gala, including music from the Stivers School for the Arts Jazz Combo, a silent auction, and a trivia competition. Rewind back to 1978 with themed trivia from the year DATV was founded. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available throughout the night, and Amelia Robinson from Dayton.com will be the Master of Ceremonies.
Individual tickets for the event cost $55 and include two drink tickets, and trivia teams are also available for $1,000, which includes admission for up to eight team members and sponsorship of a themed table. Tickets and more information about the event are available at datv.org/2018gala.
Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care will recognize local veterans in a patriotic celebration at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Earl Heck Community Center, 201 N. Main St. Local veterans will be honored in a special ceremony with the presentation of individual certificates, lapel pins, flags and a salute. The ceremony will also include the playing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, a patriotic poem and a benediction. The Northmont JROTC Color Guard will present colors in recognition of the veterans’ service to our country.
