Man sought in fake active shooter call at Meijer in Miami Twp. dies

-

A 34-year-old man sought by Miami Twp. police in connection to a fake active shooter call died this week.

Michael B. Landis Jr. had an active arrest warrant on charges of making false alarms and inducing panic through Miamisburg Municipal Court.

Miami Twp. police said Landis falsely reported on Aug. 21 that someone fired shots inside Meijer in the 5800 block of Springboro Pike after officers spotted him in the driveway of a home on Cordell Drive in the township.

At the time, Landis, formerly a CCW instructor in West Carrollton who ran The Landis Defense Solutions Tac-House Training, had arrest warrants for thefts in 2016 stemming from allegations he double-charged people who took his carrying a concealed weapons class.

The officer tried to approach Landis, but he went inside the home and refused to come out. He is accused of making the false call during that time to lure officers away.

Miami Twp. police said they are working with the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office to clear the open case.

Services for Landis are pending through Tobias Funeral Home — Far Hills Chapel in Washington Twp.
