Two arrested after highway incident
An 18-yearold Dayton man was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding police and child endangering after he allegedly fled from a stolen car Tuesday morning in Middletown.
Andre Durr ran from the car that quit running on Ohio 122, just off Interstate 75, said Lt. Clint Arnold, commander of the Hamilton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Durr and another man in the car were located a short time later near the wood-line by Middletown police officers, Arnold said.
Arnold didn’t know the man’s name but said he was charged with drug abuse/ marijuana.
A trooper, sitting in his cruiser just north of Middletown, reported seeing a Ford Fusion driving recklessly at a high rate of speed at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and attempted to make a traffic stop, Arnold said. The trooper wasn’t able to get directly behind the vehicle before it exited the highway onto Ohio 122 in Middletown, Arnold said.
That’s when the car, reported stolen Monday morning from Moraine, stopped running, Arnold said. When asked why the car stopped, he said it may have run out of gas or needed repairs.
Four other people in the car, including a young child, stayed with the car after it stopped, Arnold said. The child was found sitting on the lap of one of the occupants and was not in a car seat. He said all six people were transported to the highway patrol where they were interviewed.
Durr was transported to the Middletown City Jail. He will be arraigned this morning in Middletown Municipal Court, according to court records.
