Man arrested in Yellow Springs rape case

A 28-year-old man arrested in connection with a Yellow Springs rape investigation was taken into custody seven months after the investigation first began.

Jacob Louis Pflanzer’s Nov. 8 arrest came seven months after Yellow Springs police began investigating allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at his home, according to police and court records.

Pflanzer, 28, has pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape and one count of sexual imposition in Judge Stephen Wolaver’s courtroom in Greene County Common Pleas Court.

Pflanzer was indicted on the charges Nov. 2 by a grand jury and arrested six days later on the warrant by Xenia police.

Pflanzer is being represented by Dayton-based attorney Adam Arnold, according to court records. Arnold could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

According to the prosecutor’s office and the police report, the victim is an adult female and the alleged offenses occurred on April 8 at the defendant’s home on South Stafford Street in Yellow Springs.

The victim “was acquainted with the defendant,” said Greene County Prosecutor Stephen Haller.

The investigation began the day of the alleged incidents in April when Yellow Springs police received a call at 8:05 a.m. from the Kettering Medical Center about an alleged sexual assault that happened in the village, according to the police report.

A sex assault examination of the victim was completed at the hospital that Sunday. Evidence was collected, including four items of clothing, according to the report.

The evidence that was collected during the sexual assault examination was transported and secured the same day at the Yellow Springs Police Department, according to the report.

Yellow Springs Sgt. Naomi Watson met with the victim that evening. The location of the meeting was redacted from the police report. Watson made arrangements to meet the victim for an interview the following morning at the Kettering Police Department, according to the report.

Further details from the investigation have not been released.

Pre-trial hearings in Pflanzer’s case are scheduled for later this month and next month. His trial is scheduled to begin in late January.

Pflanzer is being held in the jail on $75,000 bond.
