$10 million for son in shooting of parents
A Parma Municipal Court judge continued the $10 million bond set for a man charged in the deadly shooting of his 72-year-old parents.
Michael Lucak, 44, faces two first-degree felony charges of aggravated murder, one first-degree felony charge of aggravated burglary and one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony.
Judge Deanna O’Donnell made the decision at a Wednesday morning hearing.
Lucak, who also uses the last name Brewer, is accused of killing his father Dennis Lucak, a longtime deacon at Archangel Michael Church in Broadview Heights, and his wife of more than four decades, Helen, a retired school teacher.
Investigators believe Michael Lucak killed his parents because of personal issues, North Royalton Det. David Loeding said.
Michael Lucak lived with his parents for a short while until a few weeks ago, neighbors told cleveland.com.
It costs about $88 a day to house inmates, not including hospital and other expenses.
“We know that stable housing and affordable housing is a known social determinant of health,” Daniels said. “It’s very difficult for folks to break that cycle of incarceration, homelessness and hospital stays without stable housing.”
Katie Kitchin, Ohio director of the housing nonprofit, said the frequent-user initiative was developed in New York about seven years ago and has proved to be successful in reducing jail populations.
“It was found to essentially pay for itself by providing supportive housing with stabilizing behavioral-health interventions for the most frequently incarcerated individuals,” she told the commissioners Tuesday.
