Citizen of the Year

- STAFF REPORT

Nominations for Citizen of the Year for 2018 are due Wednesday, Nov. 28, as the Oxford Press and Oxford Kiwanis Club prepare to honor those who helped to make the Oxford community special.

Anyone is free to submit a nomination in either of two categories but they must be dropped off at, or mailed to the New York Life office at 5995 Fairfield Road, Suite 1 in Oxford, Ohio 45056, or emailed to Mike Rudolph at mrudo200@aol.com by noon Wednesday.

Nominations need to include background on the nominee, what contributions make them a great nominee and the contact information for the nominator.

The award is offered in two categories of recognition:

■ Citizen of the Year is presented to men and women who have contributed materially to making the Oxford Community a better place to live, with those contributions being made in the current year.

■ Citizen of the Years honors those whose commitment to community services covers a longer span of time.

Contributions to the community that are taken into consideration for these awards are to be beyond those duties of regular employment of the individual or individuals.

Anyone may make nominations, but a single nomination will carry as much weight as repeated nominations for the same individual.

Recipients for 2018 will be announced in the Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 edition of The Oxford Press.

The recipients will be honored at the Oxford Kiwanis Club luncheon at the Knolls of Oxford on Tuesday, Feb. 19. At that time, each recipient will be presented with a watercolor of Uptown Oxford by local artist Marjorie Bowers and reproduced through a grant from the Oxford Community Foundation. The watercolor is available only to recipients of the award.

Finally, previous recipients of the awards are invited to attend the selection committee meeting from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 1 in the community center of the Knolls of Oxford. Previous recipients who plan on attending the selection committee meeting are asked to call Mike Rudolph at 5232335 to RSVP, or email at mrudo200@aol.com.
