Police chief suffers concussion
Perry Twp.’s police chief, who was installed in the job a little more than a month ago, suffered a concussion in a Dayton crash Wednesday night that caused him to temporarily lose consciousness at the scene.
Tim Littleton was driving back to his jurisdiction in his cruiser on an emergency call when the crash happened at about 10 p.m. He was travelling west on West Third Street and had a red light when he activated his overhead lights but struck a BMW headed south at the intersection with Edwin C. Moses Boulevard, said Sgt. Frank Simmons, assistant commander of the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol
Littleton and the driver of the BMW, who suffered broken bones, were taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
Simmons said Wednesday night that he didn’t know Littleton’s speed at the time of the crash or if he had activated his cruiser’s siren in conjunction with the overhead lights as he approached the intersection.
According to police scanner traffic, Littleton had just “pink slipped” someone suffering a mental health issue into Miami Valley Hospital and was responding to a dispatch requesting assistance for a burglary in Trotwood.
Littleton was named interim chief for Perry Twp. at an Oct. 19 trustees meeting. He started his law enforcement career in 2010 in Perry Twp.
He was most recently a K-9 handler for the Mowrystown Police Department in Highland County.
