Tree lighting Friday
The city of Mason will host its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Downtown Plaza. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. with Story Time at the Mason Public Library. Children and adults of all ages are welcome to join the library, located at 200 Reading Road, in a story time sing along to all of the holiday classics. Registration is not required.
Following Story Time at 6:30 p.m., make your way across the street to the Downtown Plaza for free photos with Santa, an iceless skating rink, trackless train rides, holiday music from Santa’s Goody Bag Band, ornament decorating, refreshments and the official lighting of the Christmas tree. Activities will continue until 8:30 p.m.
Visitors can also pick up a Christmas stocking at the Downtown Plaza and make their way through downtown to explore all of the Stocking Stop businesses who will be providing holiday treats and giveaways.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony is also the kickoff to the newly established Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.
Stop in to your favorite serving establishment in the DORA district to enjoy an adult beverage as you make your way through downtown Mason.

That same evening, the Mason Historical Society invites the public to join them at the Alverta Green Museum, located at 207 W. Church Street, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Museum’s annual Holiday Open House.
For safety reasons, on Dec. 7, West Main Street from the intersection of US Route 42 to North Forest Avenue and North West Street from the intersection of US Route 42 to Church Street will be closed beginning at 2 p.m. until the conclusion of the event.
