Two arrested with stolen vehicle, drugs on Interstate 70

- DAYTON

A stolen vehicle was recovered and two people were taken into custody on Interstate 70 near Interstate 75 on Thursday morning.

Troopers said an off-duty Dayton officer spotted a recently stolen black Saturn and followed it.

Once the vehicle entered Butler Twp., state troopers and Dayton police were able to stop it on the highway around 10:45 a.m.

During the investigation police also recovered “copious amounts” of suspected drugs in one of the passenger’s pockets, OSHP Sgt. Jeff Kramer said.

Packages delivered to two Dayton homes in recent days have been stolen and now police are looking for who is responsible.

Officers took a report at a house in the 1700 block of Gummer Avenue after someone stole two packages containing Air Jordan shoes that were delivered to the residence after an online purchase.

Another report was filed in the first block of Pierce Street, where a resident reported someone stole a FedEx package that was delivered to the house.

Officers say they are seeing more cases with people stealing packages from people’s front porches as internet shopping on sites like Amazon become more common.

However, investigators say residents are starting to help slow the thefts with technology advances.

“The Ring doorbells and some of the other systems that are out have really kind of put somewhat of a curb on that, because now people who are doing that can be identified,” said Officer Joe Ferrell of the Kettering Police Department.
