County office open Saturday to ease crush

First-half taxes due Tuesday; new hours offer convenience.

With a property tax payment deadline looming next week, the Montgomery County Treasurer’s Office will be open Saturday morning for those who want to pay in person but can’t make normal business hours.

The office on the second floor of the Montgomery County Administration Building at 451 W. Third Street in Dayton will be open 8 a.m. until noon.

First-half taxes are due Tuesday.

“We’re holding Saturday office hours to give our property owners an extra opportunity to come in and take care of their tax payments at a time that may be more convenient to their busy lives,” said Russ Joseph, Montgomery County treasurer.

Taxpayers can pay their property tax bills with cash, check, or debit and credit card at the Treasurer’s Office, as well as set up payment plans for delinquent taxes. The office can also set up a payment plan for second-half taxes, which will come due July 19.

The office’s website, www. mctreas.org, provides a property search page and option to pay by electronic check or debit and credit card. All electronic and credit card payments are subject to a convenience fee. Payment sent by mail is considered on time if postmarked on or before Feb. 15. Online payments are considered on time if processed by 11:59 p.m. that day.

A penalty of 5 percent will be applied to first-half taxes not paid in full between Feb. 16 and Feb. 22. After that, a 10-percent penalty applies.
