Candidates file

-

Two Republicans filed to run for mayor of Troy before Wednesday’s election filing deadline with the Miami County Board of Elections.

Tom Kendall, a First Ward councilman, and Robin Oda, an at-large council member, both filed petitions for the office. The vote will be in the May primary election. Current Mayor Mike Beamish will retire at the end of his current term, which expires Dec. 31.

The May election also will include a Republican race for the Sixth Ward council seat with incumbent Brock Heath and newcomer Jeffrey Schilling.

The May election will not include a Democratic primary because there are no contested Democratic races.

Two Democratic candidates filed to run against Republicans in two city council wards in November. They are Russell Wheeler in the First Ward and Cynthia Schaefer in the Second Ward. The Republican candidates for those seats are Zachary Allen in the First Ward and John Terwilliger, an incumbent, in the Second Ward.

Also filing for Troy offices were John Frigge, incumbent, city auditor; Grant Kerber, incumbent, city law director; William Lutz, council president; John Schweser, incumbent, Third Ward council; Bobby Phillips, incumbent, Fourth Ward council; William Twiss, Fifth Ward council; and incumbent Todd Severt, Lynne Snee and William Rozell, for three at-large council seats. All of these unopposed candidates are Republicans. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
