Josh Cunningham overcomes his struggles at the free-throw line to make 9 of 10 in Dayton’s biggest win of the season.

— Dayton Flyers star Josh Cunningham dating WNBA All-Star A’ja Wilson delivered a fun new — chapter Tuesday.

With Wilson watching from the stands, as she has often this season, Cunningham overcame his struggles at the free-throw line to make 9 of 10. The only miss came with 2.2 seconds to play in a tie game. The last make came moments later as the redshirt senior forward Cunningham clinched a 74-73 victory against Davidson at Belk Arena.

“Well done Cunningham!” Wilson wrote after the game on Twitter.

Cunningham’s 893rd point in a Dayton uniform may go down as his most important because it improves Dayton’s chances of earning a top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament. To him, though, it was just another free throw, one of 390 he has attempted in a career that started at Bradley in 2014 and has spanned five seasons.

“I’ve been practicing and working on my free throws all season,” Cunningham said. “It’s just a regular routine. It’s really nothing big. It was good to make the free throw win a game, but it was just another free throw. I shot all free throws tonight with the same mindset. Just got to make it and take my time.”
