Adult ed preps students for careers
The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Adult Education Practical Nursing Program held a graduation ceremony on Feb. 14, where family, friends and MVCTC faculty were in attendance to support the 18 graduates and congratulate them on successful completion of the rigorous program.
The program prepares students to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and a vital member of the health care team that cares for ill, injured or convalescing patients or persons with disabilities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. The program is offered in two options, a 12-month program that runs Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.3:30 p.m. or a 20-month extended program that runs Wednesday-Friday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The next 12-month program begins in May, and the next 20-month program starts in July.
MVCTC’s Practical Nursing graduates have a high board passage rate. Many graduates are successful in completing their RN and beyond.
Wright State University and the Miami Valley Career Technology Center are working on a pathway from Licensed Practical Nurse to a bachelor of science in nursing. Upon a final agreement, MVCTC LPNs who qualify and are admitted to the five-semester WSU program will have the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree.
MVCTC Adult Education also offers full-time health care programs in Dental Assisting, Central Service/Sterile Processing Technician, Medical Assisting Technology, and Eye Care Assistant. The next Dental Assisting program begins in August. Central Service/Sterile Processing, Medical Assisting Technology, and Eye Care Assistant programs will be offered to start in October. All MVCTC Adult Education Full-time career programs have financial aid available for those who qualify.
