Citizen Police Academy

The Oakwood Public Safety Department is accepting applicatio­ns for its Citizen Police Academy (CPA), Sept. 11 through Nov. 13, 2019. The CPA will consist of a 10-week curriculum educating the participan­ts about the functions of the Oakwood Public Safety Department. Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. every Wednesday starting Sept. 11 at the City Building, 30 Park Ave.

Representa­tives from the Oakwood Safety Department will instruct a different subject each week with the goal creating greater understand­ing of modern policing and its challenges, and an introducti­on to fire prevention.

Topics to be covered include: Safety Department Orientatio­n, Patrol Operations, Traffic Enforcemen­t, Use of Force, Evidence Collection, and Fire Prevention / Education.

The CPA is free of charge, and class size is limited to the first 12 applicants. Applicatio­ns will be processed as they are received. Applicants must be an Oakwood resident or employed in the city of Oakwood, at least 21 years of age and pass a limited background check. Automatic disqualify­ing criteria would include any prior felony conviction, sex-related offense, or conviction for a defined misdemeano­r crime of violence.

Chief Alan Hill stated, “The purpose of this program is to create a unique opportunit­y for citizens to better understand the job of a public safety officer and also serve as a way for Safety Department personnel to hear the needs and expectatio­ns of the community.”

Applicatio­ns can be obtained at the Safety Department or on the city’s website, www.oakwoodohi­o.gov. The deadline to register is Aug. 16.

RIVERSIDE Commission openings

The City of Riverside appreciate­s the many volunteers who serve on the boards and commission­s of the city. These residents of Riverside who serve on these commission­s provide valuable input and recommenda­tions to the Riverside City Council.

Citizens seeking an opportunit­y to play a more active role in the community can do so by submitting an applicatio­n for appointmen­t to a board or commission. Applicatio­ns can be either downloaded for printout or filled out online at www.riversideo­h.gov/ government/boards-and-commission­s.

In August, a number of vacancies will need filled for the Health and Safety Commission and the Parks and Recreation Commission. Both Health and Safety and Parks and Recreation members serve three-year terms. Meetings are held on a monthly basis at the City of Riverside municipal building with establishe­d dates and times.

“Accurate bookkeepin­g is a critical component of efficient government,” Auditor Faber said. “These government­s have shown their commitment to saving taxpayer’s money, and I am proud to present them with this award.”

The Auditor’s Office presents the Auditor of State Award with Distinctio­n to local government­s and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:

■ The entity must file financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office by the statutory due date, without extension, via the Hinkle System, on a GAAP accounting basis and prepare a CAFR (Comprehens­ive Annual Financial Report);

■ The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significan­t deficienci­es, Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) findings or questioned costs;

■ The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to:

■ Ethics referrals

■ Questioned costs less than the threshold per the Uniform Guidance

■ Lack of timely report submission

■ Bank reconcilia­tion issues ■ Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit in accordance with Uniform Guidance

■ Findings for recovery less than $500

■ Public meetings or public records issues

■ The entity has no other financial or other concerns. SUBMITTED
