Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. every Wednesday starting Sept. 11 at the City Building, 30 Park Ave.
Representatives from the Oakwood Safety Department will instruct a different subject each week with the goal creating greater understanding of modern policing and its challenges, and an introduction to fire prevention.
Topics to be covered include: Safety Department Orientation, Patrol Operations, Traffic Enforcement, Use of Force, Evidence Collection, and Fire Prevention / Education.
The CPA is free of charge, and class size is limited to the first 12 applicants. Applications will be processed as they are received. Applicants must be an Oakwood resident or employed in the city of Oakwood, at least 21 years of age and pass a limited background check. Automatic disqualifying criteria would include any prior felony conviction, sex-related offense, or conviction for a defined misdemeanor crime of violence.
Chief Alan Hill stated, “The purpose of this program is to create a unique opportunity for citizens to better understand the job of a public safety officer and also serve as a way for Safety Department personnel to hear the needs and expectations of the community.”
Applications can be obtained at the Safety Department or on the city’s website, www.oakwoodohio.gov. The deadline to register is Aug. 16.
