Councilwoman who’s moving to Clearcreek Twp. resigning
Carol Dorsey SPRINGBORO — is resigning her seat on Springboro City Council.
Dorsey replaced her husband, Bruce Moore, after his death on Sept. 29, 2016. Springboro City Council voted unanimously to appoint his wife to replace him in October 2016.
Dorsey is resigning because she is moving out of the city to Clearcreek Twp.
“It’s been an honor to serve on City Council, an honor and a privilege,” Dorsey said.
Dorsey married Dr. William Dorsey and they are moving to a new home in the unincorporated area of the township.
Township trustees can live in the city, but city council members cannot live in the township.
Dorsey was elected in 2017, running unopposed.
In 2016, she was picked from nine candidates for the appointment, including Mike Kruse, a former Springboro school board member and the local postmaster at the time.
“I further pledge that if you give me this opportunity to prove myself that I will seek re-election in next year’s ward seat election. This is not a stopover for me, it is a lifelong commitment,” she said in her letter of application.
Dorsey’s resignation is effective July 31.
On Thursday, Mayor John Agenbroad said the council had 30 days to appoint the next Third Ward council representative.
“Carol has turned the page in her life and gotten married,” Agenbroad said. “While we’re sad, we’re very happy for you.”
Also Thursday, the city council approved agreements with three organizations moving into the Performing Arts Center, opening in September at Wright Station.
The Springboro Community Theater, Center Stage Dance Studio and the Springboro Area Chamber of Commerce will move into the building expected to anchor the city’s crossroads redevelopment.
The chamber is to secure its offices by turning over proceeds from the sale of its offices on South Main Street: about $116,000, City Manager Chris Pozzuto said at the council meeting.
The community theater group is to pay $6,000 a year in rent, plus 25 percent of gate receipts, according to a license agreement with the city.
The license agreement with the dance studio, a tenant of the Springboro IGA Plaza razed for Wright Station, calls for $27,600 in rent.
